FR: L’article se propose de creuser la conception de traduction théâtrale qui se dégage de la parole des traducteurs de la Maison Antoine Vitez, centre international de traduction théâtrale. Les espaces épitextuels observés contribuent à la (re)définition de l’ethos du traducteur théâtral, à partir d’une conception de la traduction théâtrale comme pratique qui se rapproche de la traduction littéraire, mais en même temps s’en distingue. Ils concourent notamment à l’établissement d’un profil ‘élargi’ de traducteur, qui, par ses compétences à la fois dramaturgiques et traductionnelles, sait relever les défis de l’hybridité du texte théâtral et s’impose comme un acteur à part entière du processus qui mène du texte à la scène. EN: This article explores the concept of theatre translation at the Maison Antoine Vitez, an international center for theatre translation. In particular, drawing from some epitextual spaces, we observe how they help reshape the ethos of the theatre translator, on the grounds of an idea of theatre translation as a practice that, while overlapping with literary translation, maintains distinct characteristics. Specifically, a "broader" profile of theatre translator is established: emphasizing his translational and dramaturgical skills, his ability to meet the challenges of the hybridity of the theatrical text is highlighted, and his full-fledged participation in transforming play-text from page to performance is set.
