Italian validation of the subjective vitality scale. Relationships with extraversion, emotional stability, and basic psychological need satisfaction

This study provided validity evidence for the Italian version of the Subjective Vitality Scale (SVS), also examining the associations with two personality traits (extraversion and emotional stability) and the mediation role of basic psychological need satisfaction. Study 1 involved 422 participants to assess the psychometric properties of the Italian trait version of the SVS. Study 2 (N = 248) included measures of personality characteristics and need satisfaction to evaluate a path-analytic mediation model, testing whether extraversion and emotional stability were indirectly related to subjective vitality through need satisfaction. Bootstrapping test was employed to estimate the significance of the indirect effects. The results revealed both direct and indirect effects of extraversion and emotional stability on subjective vitality. Extraversion showed a significant direct effect as well as an indirect effect through psychological need satisfaction. Similarly, emotional stability had a significant direct effect and an indirect effect, also mediated by psychological need satisfaction. The discussion focuses on both theoretical implications and practical ways to favour subjective vitality.
