Cultural translation of career decision-making: understanding practitioners’ perspectives from a multinational study on social and emotional learning

The purpose of this study was to examine the practices and philosophies of educators in nine countries, regarding career decision-making. We surveyed educators’ perceptions, created codebooks, and conducted cluster analysis using the data related to career decision-making. As a result, we found patterns within the differences: career decision-making as part of survival skills (South Africa and Burkina Faso), the negotiation of decision-making holders (Greece and Türkiye), influencing problems of adults in children’s decision-making (Italy, Poland, Japan, and Romania), and involving management skills (Türkiye and USA). We discuss the different ways to understand career decision-making and multinational study.
