The topic of the article is the comma placement of GFL learners whose mother tongue is Italian. The article presents the results of an empirical analysis. The analysis is based on a corpus of German texts written by Italian students of German as part of written assignments. The students have German language skills at A2 level. To date, there have only been a few studies on comma placement among learners of German. The planned study aims to contribute to this still scarce research by trying to answer the following questions, among others: To what extent is the acquisition of comma placement a particular challenge for GFL learners at level A2? Do Italian GFL learners with non-advanced knowledge of German have particular difficulties in applying the comma rules in German? To what extent can they be systematically explained interlingually? What didactic conclusions can be drawn from the results of the analysis?
