This essay discusses the genre classification of the fabula Catinia as a 'humanist comedy". The first part of the research focuses on the evolution of the "modi dicendi" theory and rhetoric of 'dramatic form', between the late Gothic period and early fifteenth century, taking into account the traits of the Mid-Latin and Neo-Latin 'theatricality' as well. The second part of the essay pays attention to the eclectic contamination of this text, at the crossroads of 'comedy' and satirical dialogue', following the author's critical statement defining his own fabula and the interpretation of the "praefatio" of the Catinia.
