This paper aims at evaluating the elements of continuity in the urban representation of Venice. Some urban images will be analyzed more in depth, strarting from the plan of Venice (Venetia) by Gian Battista Arzenti, a canvas painted in oil, kept at the Correr Museum and recently dated to 1621-1626. In this kind of “portraits” the city appears as a very compact and homogeneous body, as a visual metaphor of the resilience of the city in its lagoon system over the centuries

Abstract
