Multiple Description Coding (MDC) techniques are based on dividing the input signal into several chunks of data called descriptions. Whenever all descriptions are correctly received the original signal is reconstructed, while in case some information is lost its content is estimated by exploiting the redundancy shared between all the descriptions and a coarse approximation of the signal is decoded. The topic of this thesis is the application of MDC to non-scalable, for the H.264/AVC coding standard, and scalable video coding, for a custom coding scheme.

Abstract
Multiple Description Coding (MDC) techniques are based on dividing the input signal into several chunks of data called descriptions. Whenever all descriptions are correctly received the original signal is reconstructed, while in case some information is lost its content is estimated by exploiting the redundancy shared between all the descriptions and a coarse approximation of the signal is decoded. The topic of this thesis is the application of MDC to non-scalable, for the H.264/AVC coding standard, and scalable video coding, for a custom coding scheme.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
