Pneumonectomy has been considered the standard surgical procedure for locally advanced lung cancers but it is associated with high mortality and morbidity rates. Reconstruction of the pulmonary artery, associated with parenchyma sparing techniques, is meant to be an alternative to pneumonectomy.
