The contribution takes as its starting point an article by Claudia Barsanti in which it was erroneously stated that in the arches of the Palazzo del Consiglio in Padua there was only one capital cut in two and not two capitals. On the basis of this piece of news, other authors have suggested that the capital is not a medieval reuse, but may have been included in the 19th/ 20th century restoration. After demonstrating that the capitals are in fact two, the study goes on to suggest, for the fi rst time, that they are not only a medieval reuse, but more specifi cally an intentional spolium. Th is use indicates a full awareness of the Asian Minor origin of the capitals related to the myth of the Trojan hero Antenor, founder of the city of Padua.
