Abstract

Detailed models of automatic tap-changers have been developed and their behaviour compared in a case study system. It is shown that the use of an ideal tap-changer model, although considered adequate for the dynamic simulation of power systems under normal operating conditions may be misleading and unable to reproduce accurately the behaviour of tap-changers under abnormal conditions that are near the voltage stability limit.
