Clock synchronization protocols for sensor networks can be divided into hierarchical, cluster-structure-based, and fully-distributed. In this paper we compare hierarchical and fully distributed strategies using a realistic clock model that allows to simulate different clock types and introduce faulty behaviour in selected nodes. This allows to focus the analysis on the resilience of different synchronization strategies in the presence of nonideal clocks, for which results are provided.

Abstract

Clock synchronization protocols for sensor networks can be divided into hierarchical, cluster-structure-based, and fully-distributed. In this paper we compare hierarchical and fully distributed strategies using a realistic clock model that allows to simulate different clock types and introduce faulty behaviour in selected nodes. This allows to focus the analysis on the resilience of different synchronization strategies in the presence of nonideal clocks, for which results are provided.
