This presentation describes a research-action project undertaken by the authors in collaboration with IPRASE - Provincial Institute of Education - Trento (Northern Italy). It attempts to investigate students learning processes in informal and non-formal environments, when editing Wikipedia entries on social and cultural topics relevant to the local community. The research analyses their possible integration within the formal school curriculum. Students, teachers and local territory stakeholders, try to collaborate to create these digital artefacts that are highly situated in the real world and useful for the whole community, contributing to change the perception of the image image and role of the school. On the other side, these interacting practices with Wikipedia modify students and teachers approach to knowledge, towards a participating and dialogic-based ones.
