In order to investigate the interactions between biological humus activities in roots of Pinus sylvestris and chemical humus characteristics in forest soils, four undisturbed forest soils, located in a unique climatic area under different vegetal covers (Abies alba Miller, Fagus sylvatica L., Pinus mugo Turra and Pinus sylvestris L.), were studied. The LMS (low molecular size), HMS (high molecular size) and THE (total humic extract) were characterized by NMR spectra, 13C value, and auxin content. Results showed that HMS was the most effective humic fraction on peroxidase and esterase activity.
