Serological investigation, PCR and RFLP analysis were used to identify ehrlichiosis and anaplasmosis in 113 dogs held in a kennel in Udine, Northern Italy. Serological and PCR techniques ruled out the presence of E. canis from the area investigated. Dogs were also negative for A. platys. The presence of A. phagocytophilum was confirmed by serology and molecular analysis. Eighteen dogs (16%) were found seropositive for A. phagocytophilum and statistical analysis showed the correlation between seropositivity and age and hair type. Two dogs (2%) were PCR positive and A. phagocytophilum was identified by RFLP. Our preliminary results show the presence of this agent in the province of Udine, especially in the area of Cividale del Friuli. Further investigations are needed to assess the risk for canine and human health.

Abstract
Further investigations are needed to assess the risk for canine and human health.Pubblicazioni consigliate
