The ability of quinoloncs to bind to DNA was investigated by means of spectroscopic, chromatographic and electrophoretic measurements. DNAs from different sources were employed, including single-stranded and covalently closed or linearized plasmid DNA. In no case was binding observed in the absence of magnesium ions or, in the presence of the same metal at concentrations above 25 mM. On the otfler hand, Mg++ modulated quinolone-DNA interactions at intermediate concentrations.

Abstract
The ability of quinoloncs to bind to DNA was investigated by means of spectroscopic, chromatographic and electrophoretic measurements. DNAs from different sources were employed, including single-stranded and covalently closed or linearized plasmid DNA. In no case was binding observed in the absence of magnesium ions or, in the presence of the same metal at concentrations above 25 mM. On the otfler hand, Mg++ modulated quinolone-DNA interactions at intermediate concentrations.File in questo prodotto:
