This article examines the cooperation between Italy and Argentina in the nuclear eld between 1970 and 1974. Drawing on primary sources from Argentine and Italian archives, the study demonstrates how the two countries aligned in criticizing the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty’s unequal obligations between nuclear and non-nuclear weapon states, while simultaneously pursuing autonomous nuclear development. Two case studies illustrate this collaboration: Italy’s proposal to cooperate with Argentina’s National Atomic Energy Commission in nuclear naval propulsion and Italy’s participation in the construction of the Embalse nuclear power plant in consortium with Canada. The article argues that these collaborations represented an opportunity to expand the Italian nuclear industry.

Abstract
The article argues that these collaborations represented an opportunity to expand the Italian nuclear industry.Pubblicazioni consigliate
