A high number of neuropsychiatric consultations at the Pediatric Clinic of Padua are requested because of school problems; one of these problems is the child/adolescent refuse of attending school joined with an important reaction of unjustified anxiety. Since nowadays school phobia is meant by nosographical literature (DSM-IV and ICD-10) as a symptom of different psychiatric diagnosis and not as a unique syndrome, our purpose was to analyse patients aged 3 to 17 years who came to NPI service of Pediatric Clinic of Padua since 1990. Clinical evaluation of school phobia as a symptom, comparison between our data from case reports and literature data, understanding of underlying problems were the topic of this work.
