Giulia Lama was a Venetian painter, poet, mathematician, and lace-maker, trained in her father Agostino Lama’s workshop. Independent of the Venetian painters’ guild, she received commissions from both public and private patrons, supported by her lace-making income. Lama was a lifelong friend and colleague of Giovanni Battista Piazzetta and among the first women to study male and female nudes from live models in informal Venetian academies. Her work demonstrates both technical skill and a distinctive personal style that blends chiaroscuro, intimate human portrayal, and compositional simplicity.
