his paper examines the personal notebook of the Byzantine polymath and historian Nikephoros Gregoras (1292/1295–c. 1358–1361), currently housed in the Universitaetsbibliothek Heidelberg (Palat. gr. 129). After providing a historical and cultural context, I will analyse the chronology and content of the notebook, arguing that it represents a layered and evolving work that remained open to new entries until the later years of Gregoras’s life. I propose a classification of the various types of content units included in the Palatinus, identifying four primary categories. A detailed examination of specific entries and a thorough analysis of the components of each quire suggest that, at a later stage - while Gregoras was still capable of adding new excerpts - the notebook began to take on a more stable structure, potentially resembling the organisation observed today

Abstract
his paper examines the personal notebook of the Byzantine polymath and historian Nikephoros Gregoras (1292/1295–c. A detailed examination of specific entries and a thorough analysis of the components of each quire suggest that, at a later stage - while Gregoras was still capable of adding new excerpts - the notebook began to take on a more stable structure, potentially resembling the organisation observed today| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
