The article examines Cesare Pavese's translations of Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, placing them in the historical-cultural context of the 1930s, in which, despite the pressure of the fascist regime, Italy experienced a period of fervent diffusion of American literature. The analysis pays particular attention to the formal, linguistic and stylistic aspects, and highlights the lexical and syntactic strategies with which Pavese tries to restore to the reader the realistic language and or slang of the American original.
