The interactome is the whole set of molecular interactions that occur within a par-ticular cell at a given time point. Thus, it can be considered a dynamic system that plays a crucial role in cell homeostasis. One of the most important challenges in cell biology is to understand the identity of interaction partners since elucidation of protein -protein interactions (PPIs) is mandatory understanding the complexity of biological processes they mediate. Traditional techniques contributed to the improvement of knowledge in this field, but they dis-play significant limitations. To overcome these limitations, the BioID method (proxim-ity-dependent Biotin IDentification) has recently been developed to screen proximate proteins in the native cellular environment. In my Ph.D. project, I applied BioID for the first time on two clinically relevant ion channels, the voltage-gated potassium channel Kv1.3, and the volume-regulated anion channel VRAC.
