This paper focuses on a journey to Greece and Troad made by two botanists, Giuseppe Parolini and Philip Parker Webb, at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Whereas their explorations in Troad have been published by Webb, who enthusiastically participated in the contemporary search of ancient Troy, Parolini’s own notes and letters, which are here presented and discussed, have never been studied. Their exploration of Troad and Parolini’s impressions of Greece are finally put in relationship with the journeys of two other renowned scientists, Spallanzani and Boscovich.
