This thesis presents a multi-perspective approach that integrates technological advancements with sustainable agricultural practices to address these challenges and enhance the resilience of horticultural systems. The research explores key strategies to optimize greenhouse cultivation, improve water use efficiency, enhance plant resilience, and extend the shelf-life of agricultural products. The study highlights the importance of smart water management techniques, including deficit irrigation, to optimize water use in water-scarce regions. It also investigates the potential of greenhouse climate monitoring and modelling to enhance crop health and yield. Additionally, the research explores innovative approaches such as Non-Thermal Plasma (NTP) technology and LED lighting to improve product quality and extend shelf-life. The study further examines the role of beneficial soil microorganisms in increasing plant tolerance to high temperatures, particularly in the early stages of growth. Overall, this research underscores the necessity of integrating advanced technologies with sustainable practices to ensure long-term agricultural resilience and productivity in the face of climate change. The findings are particularly relevant for regions like the Mediterranean one, where climate variability significantly impacts agricultural systems.
