Antonino Abate, author of several writings in prose and verse, in 1866 published in Catania the historical poem La Rigenerazione della Grecia: a long poem divided into twenty-four cantos adding up to seven thousand verses. Abbate’s work falls within the rich literary production that has the facts and deeds of the protagonists of the Greek Revolution at the centre of the action: a literary tradition that in Italy as also in Sicily flourished luxuriantly throughout the nineteenth century.
