The essay analyzes the role of Regions in promoting renewable energy communities, new legal entities aimed at fostering the energy transition. After outlining the European and national regulations on RECs, the author focuses on the experience of the Veneto Region with regional law 16/2022. The essay highlights the potential of RECs in pursuing environmental, social, and economic objectives, but also the operational challenges that can be overcome with the support of public entities through incentives, simplifications, and public-private partnerships.
