This paper examines the role of the issue of ultimate grounding in the context of the relationship between the emergence of the philosophy of religion and the crisis of philosophical theology, with reference to a well-established interpretive framework. Through the exploration of two genealogical constellations, the paper seeks to demonstrate the significance of Hölderlin’s project within the philosophy of religion. By analyzing a particular reflection by Hölderlin on the question of God, the paper aims to illustrate that his project of philosophy of religion is anything but a dismissal of the issue of the ultimate grounding.

Abstract

This paper examines the role of the issue of ultimate grounding in the context of the relationship between the emergence of the philosophy of religion and the crisis of philosophical theology, with reference to a well-established interpretive framework. Through the exploration of two genealogical constellations, the paper seeks to demonstrate the significance of Hölderlin’s project within the philosophy of religion. By analyzing a particular reflection by Hölderlin on the question of God, the paper aims to illustrate that his project of philosophy of religion is anything but a dismissal of the issue of the ultimate grounding.
