Several scholars have noted that Luandino Vieira’s literary language caused a kind of ‘upheaval’ in the Portuguese linguistic system used in his works. For example, the use of words of Quimbundu origin in Luandino’s stories is quite evident. It is undeniable that these words not only serve to ‘naturalize’ the speech of the characters, but above all, to gradually show the indispensability of the use of such words in certain discursive contexts. The main subject of this study is the grammaticalization and pragmatization of the verb ‘adiantar’, which appears recategorized sometimes also as an ‘auxiliary’ verb of verbal periphrasis, without, however, the lexical unit ceasing to exist. In order to analyze it, we highlighted, therefore, 9 works among his vast produc- tion, published before the independence of Angola (November 11, 1975), for having reached the conclusion that during the period that goes from the birth of the first Ango- lan uprising movements (in which the author participated) until the country’s indepen- dence, Luandino Vieira’s literary production had as its central axis to denounce the atrocities of Portuguese colonialism, through the subversion of the Portuguese lan- guage, in a strong and pragmatic way.
