Abstract

During the 1960s, the gas centrifuge enrichment technique became pivotal in the production of nuclear energy. Brazil, a country with a nascent nuclear industry and with ambiguous ambitions, discussed with Japan and West Germany the acquisition of such technique. Relying on recently declassified primary sources, this study shows how those countries could easily circumvent the existing inter- national limitations to the spread of sensitive technologies.
