The paper draws on 30 in-depth interviews carried out with Tunisian migrants who arrived in Modena during the 1980s and 1990s and their children, born and/or raised in Italy. The study is based on in-depth and unstructured interviews in Italian, in which we invited participants to narrate their biographical journey, allowing us to develop a diachronic perspective in addressing the research question. In addition, four semi-structured interviews with privileged witnesses By focusing on the Tunisian community living in the Italian city of Modena, we ask: what was the role of previous migratory stratifications in the settlement of the Tunisian community in Modena? How do the changes in local configurations modify the permeability and representation of migratory stratification for new and old migrants?
