What kind of “thought” and “thinking” reality truly characterizes corpo- reality, in its physical distinction, in its spatial assertion, as a “singularity” subject to relationships with other bodies? Is the body something alien, or is it the unbreachable boundary of the most intimate identity? Isn’t it true that not only the term “alien” carries a sense of threat or aggression, but the very term “body” as well: it evokes something strong, something con- crete and self-sufficient, which, however, can be crossed with consequences of assimilation or destruction. These are some of the issues that Jean-Luc Nancy dwells on in an attempt to re-examine conceptual systems seeming- ly close to us, yet catching us unprepared, such as those of “corporeality”, “identity”, “alienness”, “hospitality”, “relationship”, “freedom”. A reflec- tion that emphasizes ethical-political questions, even before philosophical ones, and aims to constantly monitor the historical actuality in which we find ourselves living and thinking.
