The essay deals with the relationships between right, law, and the desire for happiness in Antonio Rosmini’s political and legal thought. This topic has not been studied enough in the past, even though Rosmini analyzes human desire in more than a hundred of pages in his Philosophy of Politics. Desire is a «rational appetite», and human person can be defined as a desiring being. Rosmini distinguishes two parts in every society: the visible society and the invisible society: the former is held together by laws, the latter by right. In the dynamic relationship between them, the essay identifies the relevance of the desire for happiness even in the fields of right and law.
