This chapter explores the intersection of cartography and art by examining the concepts of performativity and performance, both of which have gained prominence in recent discussions within the arts and humanities. Highlighting how contemporary art museums, such as the Kunsthaus of Graz, have been praised for embodying "performative architecture", I discuss how terms like performance and performativity have become integral to cultural geography and map studies. The text thus proposes viewing the art space as a "performative map," inviting reflections on movement and stillness as fundamental elements shared between cartography and art spaces.

Abstract
This chapter explores the intersection of cartography and art by examining the concepts of performativity and performance, both of which have gained prominence in recent discussions within the arts and humanities. Highlighting how contemporary art museums, such as the Kunsthaus of Graz, have been praised for embodying "performative architecture", I discuss how terms like performance and performativity have become integral to cultural geography and map studies. The text thus proposes viewing the art space as a "performative map," inviting reflections on movement and stillness as fundamental elements shared between cartography and art spaces.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
