Abstract

Four Universities, three “university cities”, other cities evolving as centres of higher education: This is the context of the Veneto, which has growing University institutions: in terms of courses, research areas, locations and functions, less from the point of view of enrolled students, who recorded a relative decline after the pandemic. The research highlights how the Universities in the region strengthen their presence, becoming an increasingly complex and articulated system, economically significant and “spatially invasive”, intertwining urban regeneration with recovering interventions in vacant or dismissed lands, according to real estate strategies in progress and switching the University in a relevant player of the urban development Actually, the data collected lead to highlight that the urban policies and the urban plans do not present a homogeneous and coherent strategic line but, rather, they seem to support the choices of developers in a general lack of a clear urban regeneration strategy.
