La cronologia della produzione tarda di Galeno

The article first argues for bringing the date of composition of De locis affectis, traditionally dated after 193, for- ward to the first half of the 180s. This shift allows the reconsideration of the dating of other works, leading to a general reassessment of the chronology of a conspicu- ous portion of Galen's late production. The following treatises are, among others, considered: Ars medica, Methodus medendi VII-xIV, De simplicium medicamentorum fac-ultate Ix-xI, De alimentorum facultatibus, De bonis malisque sucis, In Hippocratis De natura hominis, Quod animi mores corporis temperamenta sequantur, De ordine librorum propriorum, De libris propriis. The proposed chronological ordering makes it pos sible to identify references to external events (e.g. the Antonine plague) and restores value and coherence to Galenic cross-references. The resulting overall picture is considerably different from the one defined by the works of Ilberg and Bardong: a reduction in the number of works to be dated after 193 is particularly notable.
