I propose a reflection on the aesthetic project of Haroldo de Campos as a singular baroque practice whose reading and use of exquisite codes appear, in particular, in two distinct books, namely the monograph on the seventeenth-century poet Gregório de Matos and the book-essay Galáxias (1984), but also in many of his transcreations. By appropriating the historicity of source texts and far from the European paradigms that distinguish original and copy, the poet-critic from São Paulo subscribes to the signs of literary traditions in Galáxias, rethought and reread as a kind of «counter-conquest art», as transcreations based on the understanding of a Brazilian creative writing and on the convergence of disparate and ex-centric voices, composed of signs under constant re-elaboration and resignification. Under this perspective, it is also a matter of questioning how this astute and far-fetched game of re-creating formal (baroque) structures is capable of producing critical thinking that expands the possibility of inquiring about the past and its associations with the present.
