Abstract
As a geographer, Strabo mentions the roads which cross the Italian peninsula, as they represent one of the main spatial references he has at his disposal to ‘depict through words’ the characters and the features of a region. Even though his descriptions do not always allow to precisely define the layout of the routes on the ground, they nevertheless can account for a chorographic perspective which had to reasonably use maps in order to be properly applied. From a topographic point of view, one could reflect on the possibility of recognising the typology of those maps in the Tabula Peutingeriana and its archetype.File in questo prodotto:
