This contribution aims to problematise the notion of critical thinking in philosophy. First, I examine specific aspects of the critical function of philosophy. Next, I reconstruct and discuss the physiognomy of critical thinking in the context of the Philosophy for Children curriculum designed by M. Lipman. In the last part, I refer to my experience of Philosophy for Children sessions with primary school students, giving some examples where critical thinking is at work. The conclusion reflects on the intersection between philosophy as critique and the particular physiognomy of critical thinking in the Philosophy for Children curriculum.

Abstract

This contribution aims to problematise the notion of critical thinking in philosophy. First, I examine specific aspects of the critical function of philosophy. Next, I reconstruct and discuss the physiognomy of critical thinking in the context of the Philosophy for Children curriculum designed by M. Lipman. In the last part, I refer to my experience of Philosophy for Children sessions with primary school students, giving some examples where critical thinking is at work. The conclusion reflects on the intersection between philosophy as critique and the particular physiognomy of critical thinking in the Philosophy for Children curriculum.
