In the 1930s the controversy between supporters and opponents of German philology revived in Italy, in particular between Ettore Romagnoli and Giorgio Pasquali. The new casus belli was Wilamowitz's death and the obituary that Pasquali wrote of him. The controversy was widely covered in the newspapers. This article publishes Pasquali’s last, unpublished reply to Romagnoli, and some forgotten pages by Luigi Siciliani and Romagnoli, which demonstrate how bitter the clash was during the First World War.

Abstract
In the 1930s the controversy between supporters and opponents of German philology revived in Italy, in particular between Ettore Romagnoli and Giorgio Pasquali. The new casus belli was Wilamowitz's death and the obituary that Pasquali wrote of him. The controversy was widely covered in the newspapers. This article publishes Pasquali’s last, unpublished reply to Romagnoli, and some forgotten pages by Luigi Siciliani and Romagnoli, which demonstrate how bitter the clash was during the First World War.File in questo prodotto:
