Sarcoidosis remains an enigmatic disease without a diagnostic gold standard, effec-tive treatments, and reliable predictors of disease behavior. The disease is generally benign but a large minority of patients experience chronic progressive disease. Such diversity makes it difficult to classify patients into homogeneous subgroups, which contributes to the paucity of clinical trials of novel treatments. Patients with sarcoid-osis of the heart, brain, and eyes and those with advanced and progressive/refractory disease should be referred to expert centers.

Abstract
Sarcoidosis remains an enigmatic disease without a diagnostic gold standard, effec-tive treatments, and reliable predictors of disease behavior. The disease is generally benign but a large minority of patients experience chronic progressive disease. Such diversity makes it difficult to classify patients into homogeneous subgroups, which contributes to the paucity of clinical trials of novel treatments. Patients with sarcoid-osis of the heart, brain, and eyes and those with advanced and progressive/refractory disease should be referred to expert centers.File in questo prodotto:
