Segni di attenzione, annotazioni e scritture marginali intorno ad un’opera letteraria contengono importanti informazioni sulla storia della ricezione del testo. La Commedia di Dante ha suscitato immediate reazioni nei lettori, che li hanno portati ad annotare, spiegare e commentare i versi del poema. Un caso emblematico è rappresentato dal ms. 8530 della Bibliothèque de l’Arsenal di Parigi, un codice di lusso, che presenta maniculae, note, graffe, disegni, diagrammi, appunti e commenti tratti da diversi sistemi esegetici.
