La 'bitácora' de un procurador jesuita. La construcción documental de un viaje atlántico (Santiago-Madrid, 1694-1709)

This article analyses the historical construction of a documental corpus, that is safeguarded in the Colegio San Ignacio archive. The aim is to explain how these historical records could be understood from the concept «binnacle» and which was the role that the Jesuit Miguel de Viñas played in its construction as procurador in the Consejo de Indiasin 1694. Therefore, it is argued that this documental corpustry to report the Viñas’ journey as an agent who was recollecting diverse documents, some that overstepped the Jesuit sphere, and he brought the records back at the end of this trip. The article reflects about historical connections between Colonial Latin America, Habsburg Spain and Pontifical Rome through the agents and their documents within the Atlantic circulation.
