The paper investigates the stories of the Venetian island of San Secondo and its function of capillary structure in the lagoon exchange system with regards of food production, regulation, and consumption. Building on the history of the small settlement, it aims to highlight the role that the archipelago’s lands and, more specifically, the monastic and convent islands had in the supply, organization, and distribution of Venice’s resources in the early modern period.
