Antonia Pallerini’s name is closely linked to that of Salvatore Viganò, of whose choreodramas she became a privileged interpreter from 1810 until the choreographer death. She was the leading character in Prometeo (1813), Mirra (1817) and Otello (1818), among many others works by Viganò. Especially appreciated are her great miming and interpretative skills, which are essential for Viganovian ballets. However, the career of this dancer has not been specifically investigated but she always appeared “on the sidelines” of studies on choreodrama. By a careful reading of sources such as librettos, theoretical texts, commentaries, and reviews that appeared in the periodicals of the time, this paper intends to make a very first survey of her early career and to investigate her role within Salvatore Viganò’s creative process.
