From the Dance of Death to the Freedom of Worship: Church and Rights in Italy in Times of Pandemic center dot The covid-19 pandemic that has disrupted the daily references of both individuals and institutions since February 2020, has made long-lasting change processes visible and, in many ways, accelerated them. This article scrutinizes some languages used by the Catholic Church in Italy to articulate its role and affirm its presence within the public sphere in pandemic situations: alongside the language of tradition, the language of silence, the language of the media and the language of rights will be briefly examined. Each language suggests a vision of the world and the legitimacy of its position within it : by applying the language of rights, the Catholic Church in Italy has embarked on a path of innovation that is not without challenges and ambiguities.
