Barucci continued such hard task balancing the budget, but the Catholic party came to an end in 1994. Nonetheless, with Romano Prodi Italy succeeded to join the euro in 1997, a result also due to the legacy of the Catholic ability to aggregate and mediate. The governments of the second Republic continued to be unable to tackle the problem of double deficits till 2012.
