A recent webinar has refreshed three old questions, long-debated among historiographers but as yet unsolved, about the institutional, judicial and legislative experience of the Venetian Republic. They concern the scope and depth of legal theory in civil and criminal matters; the effectiveness of the system along the centuries, with special regard to jurisdiction and the sources of the rules of law; and the uniqueness, or lack of it, of the development in time of the system on its medieval basis. These observations express one possible point of view on these matters and some possible answers.

Abstract
A recent webinar has refreshed three old questions, long-debated among historiographers but as yet unsolved, about the institutional, judicial and legislative experience of the Venetian Republic. They concern the scope and depth of legal theory in civil and criminal matters; the effectiveness of the system along the centuries, with special regard to jurisdiction and the sources of the rules of law; and the uniqueness, or lack of it, of the development in time of the system on its medieval basis. These observations express one possible point of view on these matters and some possible answers.File in questo prodotto:
