The article analyses how refugees and asylum seekers’ social networks and legal status affect their work and mobility choices and, in a broader sense, their biographical trajectories. The study was realized with men who had left or were leaving the hosting centers at the beginning of 2019, some months after the deep reform of the Italian legal framework for international protection. Thus, the type of reception (and its changes) as well as the new provisions have been taken into consideration as additional factors in examining their everyday paths once out of the system. The paper shows the role of legal status and type of reception in shaping participants’ social networks, as well as how the latter are important resources in defining their mobility choices and in resisting the precariousness of their living conditions.
