This paper discusses the calculation of capacitor value connected between a Solar PV and the relevant electric power converter operated under maximum power point condition. The capacitor value is important for extracting maximum power from solar PV system. A detailed analysis is presented to show the impact of the capacitor value on the maximum power point tracking capability under temperature and irradiation variation. Theoretical analysis is validated through simulation done in PSIM 9.1.1 and experiments performed on a 500-watt solar PV prototype system.
