The paper examines the quotations by Caesarius of Arles of extensive passages of the Epistula Clementis ad Iacobum, concerning the bishop’s total dedication to his officium, so far only partially identified by scholars. The Gallic bishop subjects the quotations, explicit in Serm. 1 but concealed in Serm. 230, to a deep readjustment imposed by the demands of preaching, according to his vocabulary and style.
