This paper deals with the question of rhythm in Hegel’s philosophy, with particular reference to his conception of the History of Philosophy. The starting point consists in the Hegelian theory of understanding, that differentiates the authentic historian from the simple learned narrator. The development of thought in history is thus compared with the conception of rhythm developed in aesthetics, as regards music and poetry. The theme of rhythm is dealt with also in relation to the theory of the speculative proposition elaborated in the Vorrede to Phenomenology. Finally, the problem of the periodization of the history of Philosophy is approached, showing the tensions and the problems that remain unsolved in the Hegelian debate between Greek and modern thought.

Abstract
This paper deals with the question of rhythm in Hegel’s philosophy, with particular reference to his conception of the History of Philosophy. The starting point consists in the Hegelian theory of understanding, that differentiates the authentic historian from the simple learned narrator. The theme of rhythm is dealt with also in relation to the theory of the speculative proposition elaborated in the Vorrede to Phenomenology. Finally, the problem of the periodization of the history of Philosophy is approached, showing the tensions and the problems that remain unsolved in the Hegelian debate between Greek and modern thought.Pubblicazioni consigliate
